£18m Ebbw Vale school deal likely for Willmott Dixon

Tuesday, 20th September 2011
The regeneration plans in the enterprise zone of Ebbw Vale continue with Willmott Dixon in detailed talks to build a new £18m school on the former Corus steelworks site. Plans have been approved by Blaenau Gwent councillors for the two sections of the school, which will be Wales’ first for three to 16-year-olds.     The primary school building will accommodate 420 pupils while the secondary school will cater for up to 1,100 pupils in a two and three storey building on the 7-acre site.     The builder is now thrashing out the details of the project before a contract is signed. These plans form part of the £350m regeneration project taking place at The Works site.     The former Corus Steelworks site has a £350m exemplar regeneration project, which includes education (comprising 3-16 education, post 16 provision, Integrated Children's Centre, Special School and Higher Education), hospital, 500 new homes, business parks and extensive leisure provision.     The project will provide opportunities to test new approaches and ways of working to problem solve and find sustainable solutions to some of the challenging issues faced in the area.
