£9.5m Housing Development Plan for Pontypridd College Site

Tuesday, 12th June 2012
A SOON-TO-BE empty college campus in Pontypridd could be transformed into a £9.5m housing development boasting 50 new homes, it has been revealed. Persimmon Homes is preparing to submit a planning application to transform Coleg Morgannwg’s Rhydyfelin site, which is being replaced by the £40m Taff Ely Learning Campus in September.     If successful, a significant number of jobs could be created through the development. Persimmon confirmed it would embark on a “sustained period of consultation” throughout the course of the building work. Persimmon will aim to begin demolishing the site at the end of 2012 to make way for a range of two to four-bedroomed terraced, semi-detached and detached properties.     Persimmon’s senior land manager Lisa Allemby said: “We would be proud to boast a presence in Rhydyfelin, which is a beautiful area and one with a great deal of potential. We believe there would be a big demand for properties in this area too, with easy access to the A470 which brings the Cardiff commuter catchment area into focus.”     If councillors approve the plans, the development would represent a huge positive for the Persimmon East Wales region, which is already boasting a successful five months of business in 2012. Steve Williams, Managing Director for the Persimmon East Wales region, said: “We have some really exciting plans for the area moving forward, not least in Rhydyfelin. We are hopeful of further growth, but must continue to work hard to do the right thing by each community we work in, while respecting and listening to people’s needs at all times.”
