Consultation Launched on Plans for New Primary School for Pontprennau
Plans for a new primary school in the Pontprennau suburb of Cardiff have got underway. Cardiff Council has launched a consultation on proposals to establish a new primary school in Pontprennau after a ten year wait. Cardiff Council’s Labour cabinet agreed last month to consult on opening an English language school on land next to Pontprennau Community Centre, on Heol Pontprennau, from September 2015. The 1.5 form primary school would have a maximum of 45 pupils per year group, and a 32 full-time equivalent place nursery.
Cardiff Council have said that people have the opportunity to find out more, ask questions and make comments on the plans. Councillor Julia Magill, cabinet member for education and lifelong learning, said “The proposal for a new primary school in Pontprennau is part of the 21st Century Schools capital investment programme and contributes to our aspiration of providing high quality schools and learning opportunities.”The consultation period will run until April 26, and will include a number of public meetings and drop in sessions. These are:
- A drop in session at Pontprennau Community Centre on March 27 from 1pm until 3.30pm.
- A public meeting at Pontprennau Community Centre on April 10 from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.
- A second drop in session, also at Pontprennau Community Centre, on April 17 from 9.30am until 11.30am.
