Good news for Carmarthenshire with confirmation that Santander Corporate Banking has provided backing for the £15m East Gate retail and leisure complex in Llanelli being developed by Henry Davidson Developments.   Work commenced on the East Gate scheme in March this year and is expected to be completed by September 2012.   The £20m East Gate scheme will be a large town centre development comprising 110,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space, located next to a new 550-seat regional theatre.   Once completed the outlet will include a six-screen multiplex cinema, a 53-bedroom Travelodge hotel, 20,000 sq ft of office space, a convenience store and 10,000 sq ft of retail space. East Gate will also feature a new town square, and five restaurants, bar units and coffee bars.   According to Henry Davidson Developments, the scheme is already 50 per cent let and the council will not be required to commit any additional funding.   Scott Davidson, managing director of Henry Davidson Developments, said: "The new complex will be a fantastic addition to Llanelli town centre and I am confident the residents of Llanelli will be pleased with all the new facilities their town has to offer."   Owner Henry Davidson Developments has instructed Davis Coffer Lyons (DCL) along with E J Hales to market the development's leisure quarter.   Tracey Mills, director of development leasing at DCL, said the new scheme will provide a welcome boost for the community, both socially and in terms of tourism.   "The leisure scheme will compliment Park Trostre, the exceptionally popular retail scheme in Llanelli which is under-catered in terms of food offerings with no night time driver," she said.   "There is a bias towards family-entertainment at the scheme with the cinema, theatre and restaurants creating a significant critical mass of leisure for Carmarthenshire."
