McAlpine to Build £58m Cardiff Office Scheme

    Sir Robert McAlpine has won a 220,000 sq ft. building job for a new £58m Cardiff HQ for the motor insurance business Admiral Group with work starting on site next month and due for completion in March 2014.   The 11-storey building is being built in Cardiff in collaboration with developer Stoford on the former David Street car park in the city centre. The building, designed by Glenn Howells Architects, is on the former David Street car park on Bridge Street, close to St David’s Shopping Centre has been described as Cardiff’s biggest ever pre-let. It will feature a pale stone clad finish and large expanses of glass to maximise natural daylight on every floor. The building will be serviced by a below ground car park for up to 120 vehicles.   Head of Property for Admiral, Huw Llewellyn said: “The new offices comply with the environment BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard for sustainability and energy efficiency and will be tailored to our needs.”   Stoford director Tony Nash said: “Sir Robert McAlpine is one of the UK’s most reputable construction companies so we are delighted to appoint them to develop such an important and impressive scheme.”
