Student Housing Plans for Cardiff Office Block
Plans have been submitted to demolish a 1970s office building in central Cardiff and build student accommodation with more than 300 beds there. Property agent Savills has submitted plans to Cardiff Council on behalf of client Nottinghamshire Council to redevelop Windsor House on Windsor Lane into student housing. The proposed development is to be a part six-storey, part seven-story building with 48 cluster flats, 72 studios, three accessible studios and two one-bedroom flats. This would provide in total 321 student beds.
In December 2012, planning permission for change of use was granted to use the property as managed student accommodation with 177 bedrooms. Architect Stride Treglown said the site "presents a good opportunity for redevelopment with a new build scheme". The architecture firm added it was "widely accepted" the existing 1970s building of pre-cast concrete panels has a negative impact on the neighbouring Windsor Place and Queen Street conservation areas.
