Trio Shortlisted for £40m Aberystwyth Student Hall

Project and building services work coming up with three firms having been shortlisted for a £40m student accommodation scheme at Aberystwyth University to build new halls of residence Student Accommodation . Sir Robert McAlpine, Miller Construction and Balfour Beatty  have entered into competitive dialogue to design, build, finance and operate 1,000 student rooms.   Bids will be assessed on the basis of whole life costing to ensure that best value can be achieved and construction costs are expected to be in the region of £40m. Building work on the Penglais Farm new student residences is planned to begin in late 2012 with the first students expected to take up residence in September 2014.   Pick Everard is providing technical advice on overall build quality and advising on the merits, suitability and costs of different construction methods and programmes being put forward.   Rebecca Davies, Pro Vice-Chancellor at Aberystwyth University said: “This project represents the biggest single element of the University’s strategic plan.   “As the process unfolds, as well as working closely with the local community and planners, the University will be engaging with student representatives to ensure the new halls provide the living experience, in terms of social and technological facilities, that future generations of Aberystwyth students will expect.”
